Sleep! I tend to pull a late night delivering my jobs (which are usually quite long), then sleep in the next morning. | | | Tom in London United Kingdom Local time: 22:36 Member (2008) Italian to English

If I started working in the early am and I’m taking a break at lunchtime, my favorite way to wind down is definitely by going outside or doing a small workout. I feel like a small physical activity and a quick shower re-starts me for the rest of the day. However, if I’m feeling a little burnt out, a physical activity is the least thing I want to do. See more If I started working in the early am and I’m taking a break at lunchtime, my favorite way to wind down is definitely by going outside or doing a small workout. I feel like a small physical activity and a quick shower re-starts me for the rest of the day. However, if I’m feeling a little burnt out, a physical activity is the least thing I want to do. I do think it’s easy to fall into the trap of becoming an introvert, especially if you’re remote, and I truly don’t value having some social time until I get it. I live with some really talented programmers, after working all day the best way to unwind is definitely by socializing and relaxing with each other. We’re keen cyclists too and although a cycle may be the last thing you want to do at night, the endorphin high is unmatched and great for your well-being.

Exercise is great, after sitting still at the computer for several hours I need to boost my circulation otherwise I'll get sluggish. My dog is great for reminding me to go out whatever the weather. | | | Nuno Rosalino United Kingdom Local time: 22:36 Member (2012) English to Portuguese + ...
Like Tom, I'm a walker. Helps that there's a lovely park not two minutes from my doorstep, and gorgeous sea views from the marina that's less than a kilometer away. But when it's raining a tad too much and my old bones aren't feeling up to the task, a good book always does the trick too. | | | Other (either little activity or a combination) | Sep 25, 2020 |
It depends on how long the stretch of work is, how late in the day I've finished and in what mood I am. So, it can stretch from little to no activity to a combination. If I’m too tired, I’ll just take a warm and long bath and go early to bed, but I might also binge-watch all the episodes of my preferred TV series, or go dine in a lovely restaurant (preferably near the sea or the river) or just sit for a while on my balcony with an espresso coffee and see the world go by…

When I'm done with my work, if I've still got some time left I'll just binge watching YouTube videos that I've missed. Oh, and they're all in English, and some are about astrophysics... or computers... or history. Hmm, apparently I don't know how to relax.

After hours of sitting work, there is nothing like performing outdoor exercises, which is great for the physical and mental body. | | | Physical activity | Sep 25, 2020 |

Although somewhat on hiatus due to COVID, I normally like to do my very intense sports activities in the evenings (circus arts [aerials] and martial arts [mostly Brazilian Jiu Jitsu]). However, if the timing of my husband coming back from work aligns with my need for a break, I just want to plop down on the couch and watch an episode of something on Netflix with him. Which, to be fair, is often followed by my activities anyway!

A cross-country walk with my dog, which I'll be doing in an hour so, roughly an hour and a half before dusk, as usual. | | | Reading Or Personal Literary Projects, Occasional Walk | Sep 25, 2020 |
After I submit a finished book translation to a client, I enjoy reading books on the theories and practice of psychoanalysis, as well as psychoanalytic case histories. Right now, as a personal literary project, I am translating Camilo Castelo Branco's Amor de Perdição. In other words, I don't really "unwind" all that much. Right now, as a personal literary project, I am translating Camilo Castelo Branco's Amor de Perdição. In other words, I don't really "unwind" all that much. I like to stay mentally energized, although I do take an occasional walk through a local park along a scenic river, and through a botanical garden surrounded by acres of very tall trees. Can't wait to view the colorful fall foliage! But I often take my laptop with me to those places, since I really like to work surrounded by nature.
