have been known to contaminate se conocen instancias/operaciones ... han sido contaminadas Explanation: Focusing first on the main problem here: Fracking operations have been known to contaminate groundwater --> (por ejemplo) se conocen instancias/operaciones de fractura hidráulica en las cuales las aguas subterráneas han sido contaminadas The English says "(fracking operations) have been known to contaminate groundwater", which means that it is known that this problem has occurred *in some cases* . But Valeria’s translation "se conoce que contaminan las aguas subterráneas" strongly suggests that contamination *always* occurs. A second problem concerns the English "undisclosed chemicals". It's not the chemicals themselves that are not revealed (eg: drums of toxic slurry) - it's their chemical composition and/or the potential risk they pose to the envoronment. Perhaps something like: "productos quimicos cuya naturaleza no ha sido divulgada" |
